Foreign priests lobby for supporting Christians in Algeria
Priests from 13 countries urged to help Christian community in Algeria.

A total of 23 priests and clergymen including 06 Americans from 13 countries yesterday called upon the international organization to give a helping hand to the Christian community in Algeria , notably those priests put in prison or due to be expelled on top of them the US Hugh Johnson.

According to the Christian organization “Middle East Concern” ,specialized in the evangelization process in the Arab world, the Christian community in Algeria is undergoing pressures and a huge media campaign which led to the closing down 07 churches and shrines, while 04 Christians are waiting the verdict on legal proceedings against them.

“Middle East Concern” is lobbying for the release of the 04 Christians and clear them of the charges during their appearance in court on April 2, and reopen the closed churches by extension.

These priests have appealed to all Christians over the world to protect what they called “The Christian Faith in Algeria” and denounce “marginalization and segregation against Christians in North Africa”.

Most of the committee members are from the United States, including Donald Argo, Don McKerry and Micheal Maurice to name but a few in addition to priests from Britain, New Zealand, Sweden, south Africa, Netherlands, Turkey, Jordan, Canada, Philippines, Brazil and Australia.

To recall, two weeks ago the “World Anglican Coalition” launched a fierce campaign against the Algerian authorities following the indictment of 04 Christians including French one, on charges of Evangelization.

The Geneva-based Association has sent a formal request to the Algerian embassy to Switzerland, Kamel Houhou, in which they appealed to the Algerian president, Abdelaziz Boureflika to nullify the sentences putting forward the 1984 Human Rights Declaration which guarantees freedom of worship.
