News about suspended Schengen visa following the Paris attacks raised a large controversy amid Algerian public opinion.

At 11:20 am on Sunday, a number of visa applicants were waiting for their turn next to the visas applications center TLS Contact gate.

Applicants for Schengen visa were sitting in a waiting room.

Sources at the center said they did not receive any order to stop receiving applications neither stop granting visas.

Some applicants told Echorouk they did not hear any news about visa suspension while others believe that such a decision could not be made overnight.

“I applied for a visa for my annual vacation. It is unbelievable that France makes such a decision following the attacks,” said Nourredine.

Rabah told Echorouk he applied for the visa as he wants to visit friends in Paris.

Nacira said she did not hear any news about visa and she applied in a normal way.

A large number of people were waiting in another room to receive replies to their applications.

Mustapha happily said his application was accepted and he was granted a visa valid for a year.

“I was worried as I heard that visa granting had been suspended,” he added.
