General Tewfik defends prisoner General Hassan

Algeria’s intelligence former chief Mohamed Mediene defended his former colleague Abdelkader Ait Ouarabi who was sentenced to five years in prison.

In a written statement, the retired general nicknamed General Tewfik expressed his astonishment over the sentence. “General Hassan was the chief of a department established according to the law. It operated under my authority. Because of that, he had prerogatives to conduct pertinent operations. His department actions were watched,” he said.

He defending General Hassan, adding that h respected work criteria and submitted reports on time.

A court in Oran sentenced General Hassan to five years in prison for “destroying military documents and not obeying military orders.”

General Tewfik praised prisoner’s achievements, saying he congratulated him for his “good job” after the Tiguentourine gas field attack.

“General Hassan was devoted to his work. He led many operations to ensure the safety of citizens and the Republic’s institutions. We can not doubt his loyalty and sincerity in doing his job,” he said.

He called for bringing justice to the prisoner officer.

“It is urgent now to take off this injustice on an officer who served and defended Algeria,” he added.
