Harkis associations forgive Macron
The Union of Harkis’ Associations in France Tuesday announced its support for Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential elections. This comes as a debate was raised by his remarks in Algeria, saying colonization is a “crime against humanity.”
French media reported that 150 association chairmen decided to support Macron in the second round of elections due to be held on May 7th.
The Union showed concerns about the danger represented by far-right extremist candidate Marine Le Pen if she is elected president of France.
A representative of the Union said Harkis scarified for France and renew their attachment to the Republican system represented by Macron.
Earlier in February, Macron told Echorouk News channel the French colonization perpetrated crimes against humanity. His remarks raised anger among Harkis’ associations which described them as ungrateful.
