Abdelkader Messahel, Algeria's foreign minister

Algeria’s foreign minister Abdelkader Messahel is on a tour to 8 Arab nations concerned by the Gulf crisis. This shows that there are Algerian endeavors to play a mediation role.

The ministry said in a release that Messahel will visit “Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq.”

The tour will deal with the “examination of bilateral relations and ways to reinforce them. It will also tackle regional and international issues including the situation in the Arab world, crises in Libya, Syria, Yemen and the Gulf region,” it added.

The minister also said talks will be held about fighting terrorism and violent extremism as well as the Algerian experience in the elimination of extremism.

The release says the tour will deal with all the crises in the region. Yet, Messahel’s visit to Arab countries involved in the Gulf crisis shows that there are Algerian endeavors to settle the situation.

The United Arab Emirates will not be concerned by the tour as Messhael had visited Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. He talked with vice-president of the Emirati he deputy prime minister Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan about the region’s issues including the Gulf crisis.

Since the crisis was triggered, Algeria has called on the involved nations to hold a dialogue.

Earlier, Messahel received Fares Al Mazroui, an adivisor at the presidential affairs of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar’s foreign minister Sultan Ben Saad Sultan Al Marikhi. They discussed the Gulf crisis.

Algerian Parliament’s Speaker Said Bouhedja received Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s ambassadors separately to talk about the Gulf crisis.

Bouhedja said Algeria wants the Arab world to be united and is for dialogue to solve crises.
