Imams refuse to perform funeral prayer for a man who committed suicide

Imams in Ain Karmes in the province of Tiaret refused to perform funeral prayer for a man who killed himself, raising a controversy among residents, Echorouk has learnt.

A man voluntarily performed the prayer, ending the debate.

In Islam, funeral prayer is not allowed for people who commit suicide. Yet, it is often performed by imams as the dead was victim of his difficult conditions.

This comes as a 19-year-old man set fire to his body for familial reasons. Witnesses said all his body was burnt except his face. He did not survive though he was immediately taken to hospital.
