Initiative to form a national body for the protection of “Arabic language”
Trade Union sources spoke of ongoing preparations by a number of Islamic-oriented, nationalist and democratic political parties as well as trade unions and education parents’ associations in addition to the Association of Muslim scholars, and national figures, for the purpose of forming a national body for the defense and protection of the Arabic language and fundamental values of the nation.
The move is said to be in response to the recent controversial decision by the Ministry of education on the adoption of “Arabic dialect” in preschools and primary schools in the first and second year-cycle.
The same sources told “Echorouk”, that consultations and steadfast endeavors spearheaded by several politicians and trade union militants are underway with the aim of launching a political and academic initiative to defend and safeguard the Algerian identity.
They further argued that the education Ministry’s declared decision concerning the adoption of vernacular (Dardja dialect) in primary school teaching in Algeria, is designed to pave the way for Algeria’s full adhesion to the Euro-Mediterranean project which includes Israel, according to those behind this initiative.
