Interior minister: Algeria faced terrorism in the 90’s alone
Interior minister Nourredine Badaoui Thursday held talks with Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn who is on a working visit to Algeria.
Badaoui talked about the “high quality” of cooperation relations between Algeria and the European Union (EU). He said cooperation touches many fields including security, information exchange and training.
Speaking about security, the minister said “efforts should be stepped up” by Algeria and the EU.
He added that the EU plays an important role in countering illegal immigration, drug trade and crimes.
“Algeria faced terrorism in the 1990’s alone and won. The National Reconciliation remains an important benefit as it was able to restore peace and stability,” he said.
“Now, Algeria has a new Constitution. Because of that, it is among developed nations,” he added.
He also said Algeria works on developing border areas with its neighbors.
