Internet fiber submarine cable’s repair operations reached 80% percent, Azouaou Mehmel, General Manager of Algerie Telecom told Echorouk, on Monday, on the sidelines of opening of “MED IT 2015” International Salon of Information Technologies.

“Repair operations are conducted in good conditions and the service will restart before the week end. The institution is in the process of assessing the losses’ volume.”

“A country like Algeria has only two cables that linked it with Europe, and thinking in the installation of multiple cables began in 2003 after the Boumerdes earthquake, and work on the projects began after the internet interruption incident that occurred in Annaba in 2005.”

“The project of linking Algeria with a third cable from Oran to Europe has entered the scope of embodiment after the contractual stage ended, and its completion will be launched in 2016.”

Algerie Telecom General Manager’s statements reveal the Algerian government’s strategy in the field of communication, over 12 years during which Algeria was unable to diversify the points of linking the fibrotic cables with Europe, as the country faces an almost entire paralysis after the interruption of the cable that link between Annaba and Marseille, despite the warnings by experts and the natural disasters that threatened linking the fiber-optic cables with Europe.
