Volatility that is recorded in the Internet is due to the interruption of the fibrotic cable that connects Algeria with Europe, Post and Communication Technologies Minister, Houda Feroune, said on Thursday evening, on the sidelines of the ceremony for honoring journalists on their International Day, and the President’s Price for the Professional Journalist.

“Immediately after the incident we contacted the company in charge of maintenance, to determine the cause of internet interruption. The damage will be repaired, and it is not possible to determine the duration of that, because the process is taking place at 15 kilometers from the beach under water, for the identification of the causes of interruptions. It comes to a temporary accident.”

In this context, communication manager at the crisis cell that was proclaimed by the Algerie Telecom to follow up the situation, said that the ship which mission is repairing the damage, is still on its way to Algeria, as it will arrive today coming from Italy.

He told Echorouk in a phone contact, that the volatility will continue until repairing the damage which period cannot be determined. There are doubts about a Maltese vessel that passed from the region during the time of interruption in the range of 1:00 am, as it docked there and damaged the “cable”.

“Authorities of Annaba port and marine guards were contacted to open the investigation into the incident, and whether the Maltese ship that docked the port of Annaba caused the damage. Appropriate action will be taken by crisis cell to compensate the customers.”

“Over 80% of internet flow is passing through Annaba cable coming from Europe and 20% passes through Algiers cable. The disruption also affects the 3G, 4G and ADSL.
