Jean-Marie Le Pen: “I Would Have Participated In Torturing Algerians During The Colonial Period”

The founder of the National Front Party, Jean-Marie Le Pen, said on Monday that he would have participated in torture in Algeria during the colonial period “if he was asked to do so”.

Le Pen returned to talk about the practice of torture during the French colonial period of Algeria, in a statement to the French channel “RTL”, and said; “If I was asked to torture Algerians I would have certainly done it”.

“I would have done my duty, but I preferred the life of an innocent child to a murderer who puts a bomb”; he said, calling the Algerian militants as “terrorism”.

As for his practice of violence and torture in Algeria, Le Pen denied his involvement in that, asserting that he won all the cases that were brought against him in front of justice.

The former leader of the French National Front admitted recently, the exercise of torture by the French army in Algeria, and despite his attempts to mitigate them and considering them as a non-violent way to obtain information, saying that “in no way the physical safety of victims of torture was harmed”.

Le Pen wondered, in statements, that were published by the daily newspaper Le Monde, about his memoirs that will be published next March, on the nature of torture and where it started and ended, and whether twisting the forearm or putting a head in a bucket of water or using electricity as torture, is really torturing someone, before finally answering that torture, which was included in the category of atrocities was committed by French colonial soldiers and alleged that the French army had done the least possible violence, in particular that in no case the physical integrity of the victims of torture was infringed.
