The splitting of the National Road N1 project is the ultimate step for the full achievement of the North-South Expressway in the very near future, a major project entrusted to German and Chinese construction firms in addition to national building company Cosider, public works Minister Abdelkader Kadi announced Sunday in Ghardaia.

Speaking at the end of a two-day  inspection visit to a project site  of the road network in the southern wilaya or province of Ghardaïa, the Minister stressed that duplication of the RN-1 is a major endeavour  and undoubtedly remains the main axis for  the opening of the new highway linking the North and the South of the country. ” This huge line of road communication is undeniably a structural axis ”, he emphasized.

Mr Kadi further highlighted the “growing” interest shown by the Algerian Government in these road networks, as part of efforts to promote and duly implement the pending socio-economic development programs in the various wilayas or provinces to be crossed by this major road infrastructure, with on prime focus the Southern regions  of the country.

“Important projects aimed at upgrading theRN1, for the revitalization of  national economy and the balancing of the  territorial cohesion, have emerged to allow this road infrastructure to meet the needs of road traffic users with a view to opening up  the different landlocked areas of the country”,  the Minister of public works underscored.
