Mauritania PM: “Nouakchott Should Better Sell North Of The Country To Algeria”
A Mauritanian opposition representative proposed to the authorities to sell the north of the country to Algeria, in order to have access to the Atlantic in a way to protest Nouakchott’s decision to cut off ties with Qatar, after it sold its position to Saudi Arabia.
Mohamed Ghulam Ould El Haj El-Sheikh, deputy speaker of parliament and leader of the National Rally for Reform and Development, condemned the Mauritanian government’s decision to cut off the diplomatic relationships with Qatar in response to Saudi Arabia’s request.
According to this MP, the ruling regime in Mauritania depends on the idea of selling and buying in everything, from the sale of documents to the sale of positions, asserting that the regime sold the dignity of the country in the market of political weakness.
“This position does neither represent the Mauritanian people nor the white hands of the State of Qatar”.
“It is in the context of the policy of selling that it seems to me that Algeria has an interest to reach the Atlantic, then let us sell the north of Mauritania to Algeria, as long as we sell our dignity and our positions”.
