Italian political groups, including the Italian party of the leader of “Forsa Italia”, former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and “Frattelli d’Italia”, Interior Minister Matteo Salveni and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, demanded the setting up of a military checkpoint to enable the Italian Navy to halt the influx of Algerian “harraga” or illegal migrants coming from the coast of Annaba towards the Italian island of Sardinia.
The Italian party submitted a double parliamentary accountability to Interior Minister Matteo Salveni and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to stop the unabated flow of Algerian “harraga” from the coasts of Annaba to neighboring Sardinia through the party’s representative on the island of Sardinia Ugo Cabalchi.

According to the parliamentary accountability published by local media in Sardinia, the territory of this island has become a new and active destination throughout the year for Algerian illegal migrants.

According to the European border control agency Frontex, the axis of the “Harraga” from Algeria towards Sardinia is a potential threat to national security “It must be stepped up to halt this incoming this flow before it is out of control,” it said.

For its part, the Party “Italy-Frattelli d’Italia”, according to the same sources, is pushing for a decision by the Committee of Defense in the Italian parliament (the Italian House of Representatives) to impose the establishment of a military blockade and naval blockade between Sardinia and Algeria.

According to the Italian politician Salvatore Daida, “the use of Coast Guard units alone is not enough, so the use of larger naval means are therefore is necessary so as to intercept ships and naval vessels in agreement with international bodies and in consultation with the Algerian authorities.”

“It is clear that there is now a security monitoring and follow-up of pages on the Facebook network conveying the news of the Algerian “harraga” arriving in Europe by sea particularly via southern Italy”, he added.
