Misguided “Engineers and Graduates” Set Up Network For Forging Consumer Loan Documents

The Economic and Financial Crimes Unit of the Judicial Police opened an investigation into a counterfeiting network made up of engineers, technicians, as well as employees of a number of municipalities and unemployed University graduates involved in forging administrative documents, bank checks, labor contracts and payrolls for a number of institutions to be used in consumer loan file applications.

The case, according to Echorouk’s sources, dates back to the receipt of information by the security services’ task fight  unit against economic and financial criminal offenses about the existence of a sprawling  network versed in the falsification of administrative documents, bank checks, contracts and payrolls on behalf of many public institutions, including security ones, along with the forging of mailing accounts’ statements, as well as consumer loan application files, in addition to documents destined to ensuring sales of various household appliances in installments.

In the course of the relevant investigations, it was found that the nefarious counterfeiting network was active in the provinces of Algiers as well as in Tipaza, Blida, Boumerdes, Tebessa, and El Tarf.

The gang consisted of engineers and technicians active on the national media scene, as well as of municipal employees and university graduates aged between 30 and 55 who have been involved in these illegal activities for more than a year, the same sources added.

Investigations also revealed that the busted members of the network were selling counterfeit documents for financial amounts ranging between 2,000 and 5,000 Algerian dinars, depending on the importance of the requested official documents.
