Algeria’s former head of government Mokdad Sifi said the government should stop subsidizing products and services. “This money should be paid into poor people’s salary. It is unbelievable that all people buy sugar, cooking oil and milk at the same subsidized price,” he wondered.

“Absolutely, the government should take some necessary measures. When I was a head of government and we faced an economic crisis, I proposed to be wise in spending because oil has no future,” he added.

He believes that Algeria has enough money to manage the situation during 5 years. Yet, it should not rely on that money. It should think of economy future and not to rely on oil anymore.

“It is necessary to pass to the practice and not to stay in theory only. People do not trust statements anymore and see some officials as thieves,” he said.
