Moroccan Government Pays Hefty Money To “Legalize” Occupation Of Western Sahara

American sources reported that during the first months of 2020, Morocco spent 140 thousand dollars on the American lobby, which are expenses paid by the Moroccan government, to defend its foreign interests, especially in the issue of its lingering disputed over Western Sahara with the Polisario Front, the sole and legitimate representative of the Saharawi people.

The data issued by a specialized American center called “opensecrets”, which is updated every year, and published by the Moroccan newspaper “The Depth”, revealed that Morocco’s expenditures on the American lobby amounted to 146 thousand dollars to influence the American official position regarding the issue of western Sahara, with Rabat contracting with many companies specialized in the field of lobbying for the promotion of the autonomy proposal within the US Congress and Administration.

French press sources said that in the American capital, Washington, there is a specific type of advisers, forming pressure groups operating legally, which is a lucrative business in the most powerful country in the world, and is known by large companies and foreign governments.

Morocco is considered one of the main customers of the pressure consulting firm “k-street”, and the k-street is a street full of this type of companies, where Morocco has resorted to defending its pseudo sovereignty over the Western Sahara in front of members of Congress and the American administration.

And “depth”, according to what was re-published by the newspaper “Al-Quds Al-Arabi”, said that the database of the US Department of Justice states that there are 85 contracts registered in the names of personalities and institutions in Morocco with pressure companies, and that the oldest of these contracts dates back to the year 1947, signed by the Independence Party on behalf of North Africa Independence Movement.

With the occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, it intensified its use of pressure groups in Washington, and one of the oldest of these contracts was signed in 1978 and its duration was limited to four years, by the royal advisor Ahmed Reda Kadirah, in which it was a clear reference toWestern Sahara, for about $ 300,000 in the year.

DGA International Inc pledged at the time to help Morocco obtain approval from the US government to purchase weapons to defend what it calls “Morocco’s territorial interests and borders and protect its territory against outside powers”.

During the time period of this contract that remained in effect until 1995, Morocco concluded contracts with more than 20 offices of the same type, whose real mission is to defend its first case in the United States under the guise of strengthening political and economic relations between the two countries.

According to French sources close to Morocco, in the year 2001, “Edward Gabriel” left his position as Ambassador of the United States of America in Rabat, and promised to represent Morocco in the American capital, where he will become an unofficial representative of Morocco in Washington.
A few months after his return to Washington, the ambassador founded Gabriel Company LLC, which, as agreed, won the first contract to represent Morocco.

A year later, Edward Gabriel was behind the creation of the Moroccan-American Center for Policy (MAPC), an institution that quickly became a bridge to parallel diplomacy of Rabat in Washington.
