General Bouchaib Aroub, General Inspector of Morocco’s armed forces ordered to step up surveillance on new border centers in many areas in the south. Trenches would be built in eastern areas next to Algerian-Moroccan borders and sophisticated radars will be used, according to Moroccan sources.

A Moroccan daily newspaper Friday reported that more than surveillance centers will be built.

A high level panel of senior officers visited a large number of surveillance centers as investigations showed that smuggling activity is on the rise in the area.

According to the same newspaper, Moroccan armed forces caught smugglers on boats coming from Mauritania who were carrying tobacco, food and medicines.

Yet, the Moroccan press did not talk about tons of drug seized by security forces on borders or in interne towns. That shows that Morocco wants to hide it while it said it plans to reinforce diplomatic relations with Algeria.
