Mujahideens’ National Organization: “Macron Should Know That Algeria Folded The Files Of Pieds Noirs, Harkis”

The National Organization of the Mujahideen (war veterans) criticized the statements that were made by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, in which he spoke of what he regarded as the Pieds Noirs’ rights in recovering their alleged property.

“The nostalgia for the lost glory of Paradise (French Algeria) is still reverberating in the memory of some officials of the French institutions, prompting them to demand the illegal rights that were decided by history”, the organization said in a statement, referring to the statements that were made by Macron.

“We are hearing these circles trying to exploit every occasion by waving the rights of the harkis and pieds noirs to regain what they consider their property which they abandoned after the restoration of national sovereignty in 1962, and sometimes by raising the banner of demanding the right of the harkis to return to the homeland of grandparents”, the statement added.

“The organization confirms its steadfast position on issues that are related to the colonial era and the ensuing tragedies that have caused material and moral damage to the Algerian people”.

“The laws of civilized countries do not recognize colonization as a means of property rights, whether for administration or countries. In light of this decision, the Algerian state is keen to address this issue by issuing a legal system that enshrines the right of the Algerian people to recover their looted property.”

As for the harkis file, the National Organization of the Mujahedeen recalls that “the attitude of the French state from the French who, after the occupation of their country by the Nazis, chose to cooperate with the occupier, where we still hear more than seventy years from pursuing this category, and deprive them of all civil rights.”

The organization asked: “How is it possible that this country is cruel to its children who sold their consciences and allied with the occupier, and be merciful to those who voluntarily chose to join the French occupation, and we do not need here to remind of what this group of traitors committed against their people during the revolution to serve the objectives of the French occupation”.

In this sense, the Organization of the Mujahideen confirms that “the file of the Hakis for the Algerian state has been categorically folded and will not be under any circumstances a bargaining means. It is a French affair that has nothing to do with our state”.
