Municipality workers resume their strike after a short truce
Nearly half a million of municipality workers will go on strike today and tomorrow to denounce their precarious socio- professional conditions, blaming the interior ministry for not addressing their demands.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to stage a huge protest here in Algiers during the upcoming weeks followed by a sit-in by the government palace.

Under the aegis of the SNAPAP Union, the Committee of the Municipalities Sector has decided to resume a series of a two days protest every month as of today to express their discontent towards the relevant ministry’s reluctance to release the workers’ status and the review of their salaries.

Moreover, the protesters have demanded the integration of 20 % of temporary workers that counts the sector and keep working with the old terms contracts.

In a declaration made yesterday to Echourouk, the Union’s chief Ali Yahia expects the same rate of success that is 80 % nationwide, noting that the workers are bracing for a national movement crowned with a sit-in by the government palace.

To recall, the committee has decided to momentarily freeze its protest movement over last May in a move to avoid disturbances for the parents’ students during this sensitive period of the year where millions of them pass their exams.
