Director of the National Agency for Cultural Activities, Nazih Beramdane, said the agency has the right to withdraw any work and prevent it from participating in any international film events, even if the supply ratio of the agency, if this international participation opposed with the principles of the Algerian state.

He added, during the press conference, which he organized for uncovering the celebration program of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the agency and the passage of 300 years of the construction of Villa Abdellatif, which was built by the Turks, in response to a question that was raised by the national media about the uproar that was caused by the Declaration of Algerian producers and directors to participate in international film festivals in Israel: “It is unbelievable that films which production was sponsored by the Algerian state, participate in the Zionist entity that is boycotted by Algeria which rejects normalization with it under any cover”.

“The Agency has the right to intervene and withdraw any film even though the supply rate does not exceed 1%.”

“I’m sorry for the inability of the Agency to give films that were produced the chance to be shown. Unfortunately, we could not display all the movies that took every agency’s effort on the Algerian audience because of the lack of cinema halls, but we are doing now all we can in order to retrieve the cinema halls, as what was already said by the Culture Minister, who announced that in coordination with the Interior Ministry of Interior”, pointing to the need to develop the cinema sector in Algeria to the Commerce Department, because it gives large sums of money, like what is happening in Turkey and India, and involve the private institutions in the film business financing. We must involve the private sector in the film production, especially as the state is the only producer of movies, while the private companies in the states, which developed the film industry, adopt the production of works worth billions and do the task of promoting and achieving large profits through it.”
