New names for streets and roads to activate “GPS” in Algerian cities

Interior Ministry, sent on Tuesday, an instruction to the services of local communities and governors ordering them to launch the second phase about the process of renaming streets, places and public buildings, ordering governors in turn to send the same instruction to the heads of the People’s Municipal Councils, in the framework of the implementation of the instruction No. 110, dated 25 May 2014, about the modernization scheme and division of cities and the inclusion of information systems like the geographical positioning “GPS”, allowing to facilitate the movement of citizens and the various intervention services.
Reliable sources told Echorouk that the Interior Minister, Tayeb Belaiz, ordered local authorities about the need to ensure personally on the application of this code and continuous monitoring by uniting the collective efforts of each local actors to develop the objectives of this process and its implementation in the proper time, and ensure that the provisions of Article 120 of the Law 11 -10 dated June 22, 2011, relating to the municipal People’s Council will name the Municipal Groups of Residential Real Estate Community Facilities, as well as the various ways in the province of municipality according to administrative order that is exercised by a representative of the state.
To ensure the best results for the conduct of this operation the “Mayor” is committed to re-classify all the roads that have been counted in the municipality, with the need to focus on the capacity and engineering, function and specifications for urban road standards, and provide plates of naming for the places and public buildings that belong to the jurisdiction of the municipality to be identified, as provided for by the applicable regulation.
As a third phase, houses and buildings will be numbered in order to facilitate the identification of sites by various competent services such as the national security, medical emergency, mail and transportation and other services, as the process will be done according to the rule that applies to all municipalities, as populated places in rural areas where few houses will be excluded from this process.
