National education minister Nouria Benghabrit has affirmed that it’s not possible to respond to all the demands put forth by the Bloc’s seven trade unions, stressing that the open-ended strike waged by the “Cnapeste” Union has witnessed a poor response rate, adding however, that the protracted strike’s repercussions on the morale of the helpless pupils will be “deleterious” and “big”.

With regard to the response recorded to the teachers’ strike, which has now entered its second week, the education Minister noted that it has not reached extensive proportions, and the situation may vary from one school institution to another and from province to another province of the country.

But, she underscored that this prolonged work stoppage by the teachers would have a negative impact on the morale and frame of mind of the pupils, as she put it.

It should be noted that the Minister of national education also emphasized in a previous statement, that the relevant authorities wouldn’t in any way reopen the law pertaining to the education sector’s employees n° 12/240 altering and completing the law n° 350/08, unless the independent education trade unions officially signed a Charter of ethics, clearly stipulating in one of its clauses that the social partners should formally pledge not to engage in future protest movements in return for a fulfillment of their pending claims.
