One million and 150,000 unemployed people in Algeria
A total of 1 million and 151,000 unemployed people i.e. 9.8 percent while public service employs 65.3 percent of Algerians, according to employment minister Mohamed Ghazi.
In a presentation during a cabinet meeting, the minister said unemployment in Algeria is still estimated at 9.8 percent while women represent the highest rate with 14.2 compared to 8 among men.
Commerce sector comes second after public service as it employs 61.4 percent followed by construction and public works sector by 16.5, industry sector by 12.6 then by agricultural sector by 9 percent only.
A report submitted by Ghazi to the Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal shows that 233,088 classical recruitment operations were conducted between January and October 2014. This represents an increase of 13 percent compared to the last year.
The government funded 105,597 projects as part of the Employment National Agency projects in favor of young people.
The southern area got the lion’s share as 197,440 young people have been recruited.
