Over 500 unknown containers kept in port for 5 years

New Customs’ General Manager, Keddour Betaher, order his services to create a working committee at the level of the Directorate-General of studying the status of Algerian exporters, after a meeting on Monday with the local producers and representatives.

Keddour Betaher asked his services to give the priority to the ports and export activity rather than import, stressing that the Algerian producers will benefit, as from today (Tuesday) from the possibility of receiving customs’ control of their goods in the shops and factories instead of the ports in order to facilitate the process of exporting containers of goods that are produced in Algeria.

He promised, during the meeting that he held on Monday, to provide new facilities and privileges for exporters, and asked them to give him a list that is containing detailed information on all the obstacles which they faced at the level of the ports and parties that caused difficulties that hinder the export process, and in return promised to combat the import groups and prepare a list of the names of fictitious importers who drowned the dry ports with their containers, which are causing overcrowding and chaos.

Confirmed sources told Echorouk that Algiers dry ports and major cities are almost choked because of the containers that are neglected by illegal importers, as they exceeded 500 containers, including containers that are back to 5 years, which owners received them from Algiers port and other ports in coastal provinces, and provided their move to the dry ports, where they waited their release.

Customs’ services prepared a list of ghost importers who drowned the ports with container and do not return to recover them, as it was decided to seize them.

It turns out that most of these importers are operating under false names and fake records in order to pass millions of dollars to import “counterfeited” products, as the costums’ services started in the checking of the identity and the names of those importers.
