Party rallies unauthorized because they are illegal, says Prime Minister
Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal Thursday said activities of some political parties and associations were not authorized because they did not meet legal requirements.
“Most of authorization requests were accepted. A small number was rejected because they did not meet conditions stipulated in legal provisions. Algeria tries to protect individual and collective freedoms including freedom of expression, associations creation, rallies and protests,” Sellal said in an answer to an oral question asked by a member of Parliament.
He added that the government granted 657 licenses for public meetings in Algiers in Jan-June 2014. Of them, 80 licenses were given to political parties.
Asked about illegal migration to Algeria, the Prime Minister said it is on the rise due to security situation in the Sahel region. The total number of migrants reached 20,000.
He also said public authorities will continue extraditing nationals following the improvement of security situation in their countries.
