Police Brigadier, Hamid Zouigher, the representative of the Border Police Directorate, said on Tuesday, that “the measures that were taken in the 2017 season are implemented in the context of the facilities for the summer and pilgrimage season aiming to facilitate the movement of cars in the civil space, ports and improving services”.

“Over 12.000 police officers were employed to secure 36 airports, 20 ports and 26 land border centers. Activities of the security forces were also activated to prevent parking near air and sea stations, and to reinforce all the security arrangements that are put into operation with additional numbers of policemen, and allocating a green corridor to families and people with special needs for immigrants in the ports and airports”.

“Among the new measures, mobile offices were put in the service of border control at land border crossings, in order to carry out policing procedures for passengers on their vehicles, especially those traveling to Tunisia, as the Oum Toboul border center noticed the entry and exit of more than 14,000 passengers every day, with the replacement of manual inspection by technical means.

According to the representative of the border police, a number of measures were taken in favor of Hajj pilgrims back and forth during the Hajj 2017, through coordination between the police departments, the Hajj and Umrah Council and the Ministry of Transport, which sends the list of persons concerned about pilgrimage 48 hours before the date that is specified to confirm the identity of the pilgrims, and gain more time.

On the other hand, the passenger database at the crossing point level was consolidated and a unified police and customs card was adopted with the use of database for the police search and investigation system.
