Half of the population in Algeria suffer poverty and live miserable social conditions, as shown by recent reports and studies that were conducted by professors researchers who participated in the International Forum that was organized by Algiers University 3, on the assessment of the policies to reduce poverty in the Arab States in light of globalization.

University academics, researchers and experts asserted, in the works of the International Forum, which was organized on Tuesday, that nearly 20 million Algerians are living below the poverty threshold, particularly as efforts by the state does not reflect reality.
They considered that the fight against poverty requires a collective effort, not only by the government, which spends billions in development projects, while we find the poverty rate continues to increase.
Participants said that there are no special standards for determining poverty in Algeria, and international standards that exist do not apply with reality, especially if we know, experts say, that the poor in foreign countries is the owner of the income of less than two dollars while in Algeria, we find the opposite, as there are jobless who enjoy social situation better than a worker.
In a different context, Dr. Kadi Abdelmadjid, director of the Laboratory of Globalization and Economic Policies, called for the establishment of a national observatory to determine the poverty standard in Algeria in the light of developments in the world, and the acceleration of development indicators that need a specified standard.
“This observatory will submit an annual report that helps to identify poverty and who is poor in Algeria.”
Speakers wondered about the fate of the development projects in the country and that will reduce poverty in light of the declining oil revenues that would influence its conduct and about the ways through which treatment of effects of this decline can be done.
