Public Works Minister, Abdelkader Wali: “Our objective is eliminating traffic on the roads of Algiers in 2017”

Public Works Minister, Abdelkader Wali, identified the elimination of the problem of congestion in Algiers, in a period of no less than two years, after the completion of the highways’ projects and seven stores, which the percentage of completion reached an advanced stage, revealing on starting the process of a large evaluation of roads in order to maintain them.

The minister said in a press conference, on the sidelines of an inspection visit to the sector’s projects in a number of Algiers’ municipalities, accompanied by the governor, Abdader Zoukh, that the transformers, highways and nine roads, who will contribute largely in easing the pressure on traffic, and reducing congestion, in a lot of local roads.
“In two years the entry to the center of Algiers is smooth compared to the current time.”
“Projects that were planned to free Algiers from the problem of congestion are important, particularly as they include many of the strategic places like the port of Algiers, which makes the completion of these projects of a great importance.”
“Government gives a large importance to the process of road maintenance and ensure the safety of traffic for the citizens. A special program is prepared for the maintenance, the building of roads, and the elimination of one of the causes of traffic accidents, personalizing the problem in the lack of full coordination between the sectors, making the situation increasingly strained.”
Public works’ Minister asserted the need for coordination between the different services in order to create the various roads, because each party shares responsibility, according to the nature of every person, whether in the national or municipal levels, through planing a new strategy based on coordination between the local groups and public works, and intended to achieve a qualitative jump after the comprehensive assessment on the status of the roads by the public works managers across the Wilayas.
