Qatar hails Algeria’s “honourable” position towards crisis in Gulf
Qatari foreign minister Soltane Ben Saad Soltane Al Marikhi Thursday hailed Algeria’s “honourable” position towards the crisis in the Gulf region by calling for a dialogue.
“Algeria’s position is honourable as it is the first nation which called for dialogue. This is what we seek with many nations in the region,” the Qatari minister told journalists following a meeting with his Algerian counterpart Abdelkader Messahel.
“Algeria is a big country in the Arab world. It can play an important role in the Arab-Arab relations,” he added.
He also said his visited Algeria to examine bilateral relations between the two countries and new developments about what happens in the Gulf region.
Messahel posted a tweet, saying “Algeria renews its support to dialogue as a way to overcome conflicts between nations.”
In another tweet, he said “the Qatari foreign minister hails Algeria’s role and balanced position towards the crisis in the Gulf region.”
Earlier, the Algerian foreign ministry issued a release immediately after the crisis had broken out between Qatar and its neighbours. “Algeria follows with a big interest the regression of relations between some countries in the Gulf region. A dialogue should be adopted as a unique way to settle conflicts which can effect relations between nations. It is necessary to respect the non-interference in countries’ domestic affairs principle. Their national sovereignty should be respected in any circumstance,” said the release.
Algeria also said it will remain “confident that the current difficulties are ephemeral. Wisdom will be the dominant at the end. There are many real challenges faced by Arab nations and people for an efficient solidarity and a real unity.”
