Said Saadi shows hostility to the Arab language: “If the Arabic language was not imposed, only a few Algerians would learn it”
If Arabic language was not imposed in the Algerian education, a few Algerians would learn it, especially in the Kabylian region, former chairman of the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD) Party, Said Saadi, said.
“Tamazight language can become a practical language”.
Candidate for the Presidential Elections of 1995 mentioned some of his positions about identity and language, in an intellectual seminar that was held on Thursday in Tizi Ouzou.
The psychiatrist talked about the controversy on the status of the Arabic language, after the Education Minister signed on using the slang especially in primary school curricula.
TSA news website quoted Said Saadi as saying; “Today the Amazigh language noticed a boom that enabled it to be in the political and national debate in Algeria and even in Morocco, where it made more significant progress … Today in Algeria no party can oppose the Tamazight language including the Islamists.”
But what is more important for Saadi, regarding the Tamazight language is not only the demarcation, but the quest to make it the most used language.
“We did not win completely the battle the fight now is to make it not only an optional languages in the educational curricula”.
“If the learning of Arabic language was not imposed, only a few Algerians would learn it, especially in the Kabylie region.”
