Six months to decide about handing over Rachid Messli to Algerian authorities

Court of Appeal in the Italian city of Turin upheld on Saturday the decision to arrest the FIS party’s lawyer, Rachid Messli, on the Swiss border, and ordered the launch of procedures, and arrangements for his release, with keeping him under forced residence in Valle d’Aosta province, where he was arrested, according to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

 It is expected that the Chairman of the Court of Turin will consider the case of the arrest of Algerian lawyer on the Italian-Swiss border, and whether he will be released permanently, or continue to be detained at the hearing of Tuesday, 25.

Same newspaper quoted the Italian judicial bodies as saying that the issue of deporting Messli to Algeria, and given the law of the Italian Criminal Procedure and the requisite documents and procedures, will take at least six months for the final decision, adding that, the Italian authorities did not yet receive a formal request from the Algerian authorities to extradite the lawyer Rachid Messli.
