Algerian National Oil Company “SONATRACH” will benefit from the Algerian satellite Alcom Sat 1, which was recently launched from China, in the field of oil and gas exploration, and the preparation of the Algerian mining field, and the maintenance of the company’s facilities, data and communications, making it purely Algerian and do not pass through international trends and workshops.
In the context, Sonatrach signed a framework agreement with the Algerian Space Agency (ASA) on Sunday evening, to establish cooperation between the two parties, as the company will benefit from the Alcom Sat 1 satellite in the field of oil and gas exploration, and the preparation of spectral maps from space, and the mining areas map in ​​Algeria.
According to the explanations that were presented by the General-Director of Sonatrach, Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, and the General Director of the Algerian Space Agency, Azzeddine Ousaddik, the space surveillance will also be provided for the sites, oil and gas fields and industrial sites of the company, which will help secure them more.
The satellite will also be used to secure the company’s data and to make the storage process purely Algerian, and to secure communications, especially in isolated fields and sites deep in the desert, where they will be guaranteed through Algerian media without passing through an international ring.
Ould Kaddour said that after the signing ceremony that this agreement comes within the framework of supporting cooperation and the involvement of Algerian institutions, it will create jobs, in addition to the training of staff and frames of the company and reduce costs.
According to Ould Kaddour, the arrival of the company to 40% of its completion by national companies over the next 5 to 10 years will be great and positive for the company, asserting that Algeria is still suffering from a shortage of companies that are producing equipment for the fuel sector.
