Tunisia media outlets raise specter of looming closure of Algeria-Tunisia border

Several Tunisian media outlets have brandished the specter of a looming closure of the Algeria-Tunisia border presumably citing informed Algerian sources without even naming the proper official channels regarding this contingency.

These Tunisian media circles including some electronic sites argued that the Algerian authorities were intent on closing the border with Tunisia on a temporary basis in the aftermath of the recent  deadly terrorist attack which targeted earlier this week Tunisian troops in the forests of Chaambi mount in the Kasserine Governorate on Tunisian soil triggering further instability and political agitation in the country.

However, in a swift reaction, Algeria has firmly condemned the recent outrageously false allegations reported by some circles in Tunisia through television channels and electronic sites blaming Algeria for the deterioration in the security situation in Tunisia.

The spokesman of the Algerian foreign ministry Amar Belani said in a declaration that such allegations were irresponsible adding that confusions calling into question Algeria’s alleged involvement in the deteriorating security in Tunisia were unacceptable.

Mr. Belani reiterated Algeria’s outright condemnation of such a manipulation which came at a time when the Tunisian people were mobilizing to face up to the scourge of terrorism.

He also reaffirmed Algeria’s steady attachment to its good neighborly relations and non interference in other States’ domestic affairs.

The Foreign ministry’s spokesman added that Algeria fully backed the Tunisian people’s efforts to achieve their legitimate aspirations and ideals.

Earlier, Algerian Interior minister Daho Ould Kablia affirmed in Tiaret that the National Popular Army (ANP) fully ensured security on the country’s borders.

He said that the National Popular Army had reinforced its means and capacities on the country’s eastern borders, in the aftermath of the latest deadly events which occurred in neighbouring Tunisia.

Mr. Ould Kablia also said that there was a regular exchange of information between Algeria and its neighbours to fight against the various plagues threatening security and stability in the whole region including terrorism and various forms of smuggling.
