Volkswagen To Create 550 Jobs Western Algeria

Sovac group decided, in partnership with the German giant Volkswagen, to bring the German brand’s manager in China to Algeria’s Ghelizane plant, which will open here on Thursday, and will hire two international experts at SEAT to train Algerian frames.

Volkswagen Algeria plans to employ 550 people, most of them from the province of Glizane and surrounding areas (western Algeria).

According to the figures that were obtained by Echorouk, Sovac company employs 380 people in the first batch of operation at the Ghelizane plant, in partnership with the German dealer Volkswagen, to produce 4 types of cars, which is scheduled to open today, pending the recruitment of 550 people during the coming months.

Volkswagen asserts that 6% of its workers are women, with 39 engineers and 15 senior employees, as 98% of the staff live in Ghelizane province and its neighboring areas (western Algeria), a commitment that was previously made in meetings that brought together Sovac officials and local authorities. 

An informed source to the file told Echorouk that the recruitment process is under way at the best of times, although the technical standards are difficult to find, as Sovac is working to create the workforce to achieve the desired results by using the expertise and technology of the German partner Volkswagen.

German Volkswagen and Sovac developed an ambitious program for the training of workers, as twelve trainers were formed in three countries: Germany, Spain and the Czech Republic, noting that the total number of employees was subjected to training, including the administrative staff, in order to explain the values ​​of the German group and its leading line. 

Workers were trained according to specialization and profession that included all the tasks of the factory, which are technical and targeted training, while the company is receiving weekly training teams from different countries to accompany the Algerian teams.

In order to ensure the desired technological transfer of the project, prominent figures have been recruited to develop the production of Sovac, to rapidly increase the integration rate and to realize CKD installation, as required by Algeria’s conditions of vehicle installation. 

Volkswagen will hire a general manager from China, where he worked as manager in charge of manufacturing the new products, and he will be accompanied by two other experts from SEAT plant that known with its car Ibiza, as one of whom will be responsible for quality and another for logistics, while the other three will be working with Algerian deputy directors to achieve the principle of transferring experience and guaranteeing the challenge on local efficiency.

With regard to spare parts and the development of the handling sector in Algeria, Sovac initiated negotiations with SEAT and its equipment suppliers to identify the components of the car parts that can be manufactured in Algeria, as 15 suppliers will visit Algeria in the coming months to see the situation closely and discuss the possibility to develop its projects in Algeria with the aim of complying with the conditions book, which the government intends to put forward soon.
