Youth who are born in 1985 to be exempted from National Service
National Defense Ministry submitted a proposal to the President of Republic, as he is the commander in chief of the armed forces and minister of defense, to exempt youth who were born in 1985 from the duty to perform the national service, pending the signing of a final decision within a presidential decree in the coming days.
In this regard, reliable sources told Echorouk, that the National Service at the Defense Ministry submitted its proposal to the President of the Republic, after it was checked out by the Maj.Gen. Ahmed Guaid Salah, Deputy Defense Minister, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army, regarding the exemption of youth who were born in 1985 from the performance of the National Service.
This decision includes, according to the same sources, all categories including the disobedient and adults from the age of 30 years until December 31, 2015, as the decision will include youth who were born between January 1 and December 31, 1985, pending the application at the national service authorities in the six military regions, after the issuance of a presidential decree that will be signed by the President of the Republic in his capacity as commander in chief of the armed forces and minister of defense.
Previously, President of the Republic, in his capacity as commander in chief of the armed forces and minister of National Defense, and in application of the provisions of the Presidential Decree No. 14-370 dated on December 23, 2014, contained the exemption of youth who have reached the age of 30 or more at the date of December, 31, 2014, and they have not yet been recruited, and it has included even the disobedient.
According to the National Service Directorate at the Ministry of Defense, and since the beginning of the settlement of the of youth who are 30 years and more, starting from March 2011 until June 25, 2015, the number of citizens who have benefited from presidential procedures increased to 201.154 citizens, including 2.585 citizens who live abroad.
