The National Democratic Rally (RND) has submitted a set of proposals to the commission in charge of spearheading large – scale consultations for the planned constitutional revision headed by the Director of the Presidency’s Office, Ahmed Ouyahia, as part of the party’s own contribution to the amending and enriching of the future fundamental law of the country.

Among other proposals, the RND party suggested the nomination of a Vice – President of the Republic and the setting up of a higher constitutional court in replacement of the constitutional council arguing that the current council is now obsolete and not keeping abreast with the latest developments unfolding on the national political scene.

The RND party also proposed that a halt should be brought the political transhumance across the entire national political spectrum

Such proposals were unveiled during a seminar held on Tuesday in the district of Ben Aknoun in upper Algiers attended by senior party executives and militants including several MP’s belonging to the RND party.

The meeting was designed to examine the various options and proposals to be put forth by the RND party for the projected constitutional revision before being conveyed to the relevant commission led by Ahmed Ouyahia.

Several RND MP’s from the two houses of parliament have insisted on the fact that the outstanding RND proposals for constitutional revision put forward during the first round of political consultations held to this effect in the year 2011, have been retained in the current draft constitutional blueprint submitted for discussion, study and enrichment as part of the national consultations which are expected to kick off on Thursday June 5th, according to reliable sources.
