Abdelaziz Bouteflika: “We Are Keen To Revitalize The Maghreb Union Structures”
President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, reiterated, on Friday, Algeria’s firm adherence to the Arab Maghreb Union as a strategic choice and a popular demand.
In a congratulatory message to his Tunisian counterpart, Béji Caid el Sebsi, on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the founding of the Arab Maghreb Union, President Bouteflika said: “Algeria is keen to promote its institutions and revitalize its structures so that our countries can defend their common interests and meet the growing challenges and respond to the aspirations of all Maghreb peoples to more unity and integration”.
The telegram of the President of the Republic added: “On the occasion of the twenty-ninth anniversary of the founding of the Arab Maghreb Union, I am pleased to express to you, on behalf of Algeria, the people, the Government and the image of my country, my warmest congratulations and best wishes, asking Allah to bless our Tunisian brothers with health and happiness, and realize prosperity, development under your wise leadership”.
The president considered this historic anniversary “an occasion in which we remember what brings together our Maghreb peoples from the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity and good neighborly relationships”, adding that it is “a station that calls for reviewing and evaluating the Union’s march, which allows for a comprehensive and objective review of the existing work system and adapting it to the latest developments, so that the Maghreb Union becomes an active bloc in the international arena”.
