Algeria: 1.5 Million Jobless People Recorded In 2017
The unemployment rate in Algeria reached 11.7% in September 2017 against 10.5% in September 2016, according to the latest figures from the National Office of Statistics (ONS) released on Tuesday, December 19th via the official agency.
The unemployed population is estimated at 1.44 million people in September 2017 (against 1.508 million people last April), according to the same source.
The unemployment rate was 9.4% for men and 20.7% for women, while significant disparities were observed by age, level of education and degree.
The unemployment rate for the 16-24 year olds reached 28.3%.
Moreover, the distribution of the unemployed according to the secured diplomas, shows that 692,000 unemployed persons have no diploma, that is to say almost half of the total unemployed population (48%).
In September 2017, the number of the active population in Algeria reached 12,298 million people against 12,117 million in September 2016.
