Algeria: Dismantling Of International Car Smuggling Network

The National Gendarmerie in Tlemcen province (western Algeria) managed to round up, after a thorough investigation, all the elements of an international network specialized in car smuggling and forging of official documents.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense, the operation resulted in the arrest of 11 persons, the seizure of (09) cars and (300) fake base files and audiovisual media devices, in addition to various administrative documents.

On the other hand, a detachment of the National People’s Army on Sunday stopped three (03) elements supporting the terrorist groups in the market of Ahras, where the operation came in the context of combating terrorism and thanks to the good exploitation of relevant information.

As part of the relentless  fight against smuggling and organized crime, the National People’s Army (ANP) detachments in Ain Guezam and Tamanrasset  rounded up seven (07) smugglers, seized two four-wheel drive vehicles, as well as (04) metal detectors and a satellite communication device.

In a related context, the national gendarmerie and border guards intercepted during separate anti-smuggling operations, four (04) drug dealers and seized (59.7) kilograms of quality treated narcotics in the Tlemcen region, in addition to confiscating (1700) hallucinatory tablets in Béchar, and (2456) boxes of smuggled tobacco in Ouargla and Biskra, while 63 illegal immigrants from different nationalities were arrested in the provinces of Mascara, Tlemcen, Béchar, Ghardaia and In Guezam.
