Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal Monday asked France officials to extend investment partnership, saying his country needs foreign expertise to reactive agriculture, energy and tourism sectors.

Sellal also called for increasing the production capacity of Renault plant in Algeria to 75,000 vehicles per year instead of 25,000.

French foreign minister Laurent Fabius who is on a visit to Algiers for the inauguration of the plant seems to be on a mission to put pressure on Algeria. France wants to establish a project to manufacture military helicopters hoping to cover local market.

Sellal officially inaugurated Renault plant in the area of Telilat in Oran (west of Algiers) to manufacture “Algerian Symbol.”

He said Algeria has no complex about asking for competence and expertise.

“Algeria wants to implement its development program which needs to develop production national tools and to raise management capacities,” said Sellal.

He asked Renault’s executives in Algeria to double effort to reach a production capacity of 75,000 vehicles per year. He promised to train Algerian subcontractors as subcontracting is the main engine of national automotive industry.

“Algeria is totally ready for cooperation and partnership. Our partners have only to be courageous and innovative. The country is politically and economically stable. It has attractive laws and advantages. Because of that, business climate is promising,” he added.

“The Algerian government makes no difference between national enterprises either private or public. It will support them to build partnerships with leading economic foreign operators,” he also said.
