Algeria: members of Parliament earn 400 million centimes per year

Demands submitted by some members of Parliament for a pay raise are related to bonuses and indemnity as part of their activities including duty, Echorouk has learnt.

The monthly gross salary of ordinary members of Parliament is estimated at 35 million centimes. Yet, it is reduced to about 19 million centimes while indemnity and bonuses raise it to around 27 million centimes.

According to the same sources, members of Parliament are allowed to get an interest-free loan estimated at 100 million centimes to buy a car. They have to pay 1 million centimes per month. They also have a transportation-related bonus which consists of air travel tickets.

Members of Parliament who bear responsibilities benefit from other advantages such as a pay raise of about 20 percent. They also have a driver, a car and a phone line.
