The Algerian University is dismally absent in the rankings of world universities issued Friday by the renowned British university Cambridge together with the British Council and an Australian Institute, and showing a sweeping domination by high-grade American and British universities as usual.

The National Coordinator for the Council of higher education professors said in a reaction that the absence of the Algerian universities in this reference ranking is “an accomplished fact”  stressing that the “Algerian University has woefully become a centre for vocational training and nothing else.”

He added that the Algerian university has lost a large part of its credibility and is now very far from the level of world-class universities across the world for myriads of reasons as evidenced by this world ranking report.

As a matter of fact, the quest to create “world-class” universities has become something of a global obsession in the past decade as governments across the world have put the development of competitive higher education and research systems at the heart of their national economic strategies.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-2015 list the best global universities and are the only international university performance tables to judge world-class universities across all of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The top universities rankings employ 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available, which are trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.
