Customs Services Seize Engines, Cars, Fireworks In Algiers Port

Algiers Port Customs Services foiled, last week, the introduction of motor vehicles and scraps of cars and motorbikes to Algeria market through a ship that was carrying passengers from Marseilles, where they seized 41 engines and half engines.

The same services were able to seize 9000 units of the dangerous fireworks, rockets and flares that were directed to the national market on the Muslims Religious Day Prophet Mohamed Birthday (Mawlid Annabawi Charif).

Details of the operation, as revealed by responsible sources to Echorouk, are due to the inspection and control operations that were conducted by the agents of the Customs Inspectorate to the passengers in Algiers Port and all cars that were coming from Marseilles aboard a vessel, passing through the Scanner machine, where 10 engines and 20 half engines, including 11 motorbikes, 26 motor vehicle spare parts and 1,800 bird power packs were hidden inside 3 foreign-rated vehicles, in contravention of the law that is prohibiting the introduction of used spare parts to the Algerian markets.

Preliminary investigation revealed the involvement of immigrants in the process, and one of them was in the process of changing his residence and returning home permanently. Subsequently, the main inspectorate of commercial operations issued a record of violation and penal follow-up against those involved, and the file the case was transferred to the police services for further investigation, with the release of a fine of more than DZD 40 million.

During the same period, the same departments were able to seize 9000 units of dangerous rockets, which were hidden in a utility car that is coming from Marseilles, where the reserved quantity was intended to flood the market, on the occasion of the celebrations of the Prophet’s Birthday. In accordance with the instructions of the regional director of the customs of Algiers port, Zoubir Allawi, who directed an instruction to his services in the port, whether the commercial section “containers” or passengers, as he urges them to the need to double the inspection of all containers, passengers and cars that are coming from abroad, especially in the section related to the prohibited items at import, which directly affect the security and health of the consumer.
