Exceptional National Gendarmerie Scheme To Secure New Year Celebrations

The regional Gendarmerie command of the capital Algiers has devised a security-related plan in expectation of New Year’s Day, based on intelligence work, notably by doubling the number of patrols of motorcyclists or patrolling cars, and intensifying observation and inspection points throughout the capital’s entrances, as well as overseeing major and secondary roads and all tourist vehicles and places that attract Algerians to celebrate in addition to securing the railway network, trains and passenger terminals.

According to First Lieutenant Souad Ounis, Head of the Public Relations and Liaison Unit of the Regional Gendarmerie command,  the event of the New Year celebrations, has prompted the gendarmerie regional command to work out schemes meant to provide security and safety for the citizens.

In addition, First Lt. Ounis said that the control and inspection through checkpoints and the intensification of public parks, entertainment and shopping centers as well as tourist areas, hotel and leisure establishments, passenger terminals and railways have been intensified as New Year’s Day coincides with the school holidays marked by large car and transport movement.

The gendarmerie command has thus taken a number of security measures and traffic arrangements geared for the enforcement of pre-preventive and deterrent plans.

The units deployed throughout the capital region will be tasked with carrying out this security-related plan by ensuring the fulfillment of the work of all the gendarmerie elements on the ground.
