Algeria should be treated equally in respect of compensating of non-French victims (Algerians) in the liberation war and those with rights, A French MP said.

He asserted that Paris should demand compensation for the French victims, especially after the date of July,5, 1962, especially in relation to the massacres of Oran (western Algeria).

These demands came in a written question to the member of the French National Assembly (parliament), Louis Aliot, dated February 20, and was addressed to the Ministry of the French Armies, regarding the decision of the French Constitutional Council to drop the requirement of French citizenship for the victims of the war of liberation on compensation of the government, thus including Algerian victims as beneficiaries.

According to the French MP, the President Houari Boumediene said in an interview with the newspaper “Le claire” in 1971, that Algeria maintains a large number of French hostages, and that France if it wanted to recover them only pay within it.

French MP, Louis Aliot, said that in an international law, what is known is the principle of reciprocity in relations and in treating other countries equally in the legal part, and wondered “Will the Algerian state compensate the wounded and their rights and also the dead as of July 5, 1962?”.

“I would like to know what the government intends to do to achieve this, referring to the compensation of the French victims by Algeria”.

French parliamentarian asked his government to give full details to the French National Assembly regarding the financial estimates of this decision and its impact on the budget of the French state.

“Independence of Algeria on July 5, 62, took place in the massacres of Oran where many French citizens who had joined a long list of French who had lost their lives in Algeria and were killed since March 19, 1962 ceasefire”.

“Number of missing French experts is about 3.000 French citizens, including about 2300 after the signing of the Evian agreements”.
