Opposition parties refused to take responsibility for the spread of the phenomenon of illegal immigration among young people by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Mohammed Issa, and described his remarks as an attempt to avoid facing the phenomenon and ignorance of the reality that is dominated by low purchasing power level and the lack of clear vision on the horizon.

The latest of illegal immigration creates a new rift between the opposition and the authority because of the party that takes responsibility for its spread, at the time when the Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia, said that the causes of illegal immigration remain unknown and no one knows why the young Algerians risked their lives in the death boats to reach the other bank of the Mediterranean sea, and the Minister of Religious Affairs accused those he called “political professionals” who adopt desperate political speech.

In the face of these statements, Djilali Sofiane, head of the Jil Jadid (New Generation) Party, said Issa’s accusations are an attempt  “to cover the reality”, asking him to stop interfering in political affairs by virtue of his competence as minister for religious affairs.

“If Issa spoke with the hat of the politician we would have accepted his preaching and criticism, but to make statements as a representative of the government and accuse the politicians, this is unacceptable because he has confused political and religious things, and these things harm religion and do not serve it.”

Djilali Sofiane told Echorouk: “The speech of the politicians will not change the reality and the truth, and these young people who risk their lives at sea, most of them do not watch television and do not recognize the political speeches, and they are victims of the living reality, and this is the minister’s statement is a concession.”

Moussa Touati, head of the Algerian National Front, called on the Minister of Religious Affairs to use his position in the government to raise awareness of the danger of illegal migration and its repercussions through mosques and awareness speeches instead of placing responsibility on politicians.

He continued: “I do not understand the language of our ministers who are disdainful of renunciation of their full responsibilities, while they have all the powers to change the situation and ensure the affairs of the citizens.”

For his part, the head of the parliamentary bloc of the Movement for the Society of Peace, Nasser Hamdadouche, explained to Echorouk that the spread of the phenomenon of illegal immigration was the result of the reality of the citizen, especially the Algerian youth.

“Opposition does not take responsibility and did not invent a speech that does not exist but simulates a reality. We do not take responsibility for the failed executive policies and the negative outcome of successive governments because we are not a majority.”

“The speech of the opposition criticizes the imbalances that are recorded in the work of the government, which is recognized even by the parties in the authority, which acknowledged the difficulty of the economic situation”.
