Algeria imports become suspicious because of the phenomenon of inflating bills and turning them into a method of foreign currency exchange rather than supplying the national economy, Trade Ministry, Mohamed Ben Merradi, said on Monday.

“Imports are becoming suspicious and there is a problem. I will not hesitate to say that”, Ben Merradi said during a meeting with local producers.

“We are sure that there is a phenomenon of inflating bills, but I can not provide that level, but we are working with international institutions to try to control the spread of this phenomenon and find ways to do so”, he added.

“Today, in most cases, imports are a means of transfers of hard currency, more than operations to feed the national economy and I take responsibility of what I say”.
