Algerian justice minister Tayeb Louh Monday announced that a new specialty was opened at universities. This means that successful Baccalaureate candidates can enroll to graduate as judges after 6 years of studies.

The minister said he submitted the proposal to the higher education ministry as part of consultation and to find the way to implement this decision.

“The justice system will be reformed in cooperation with higher education sector. This reform will be based on correct principles and international standards,” he told Parliament.

He added that students can stop at four years of study to obtain a licence degree and choose another specialty.

Asked about judicial prosecution of former energy minister Chakib Khelil, Louh said justice handles the case and he can not talk about it.

“Judges are in charge of judicial procedures. The minister can not intervene,” he added.
