Macron Wants To Close The File Of Colonial Crimes

French President, Emmanuel Macron, said on Tuesday that the crimes of colonialism are indisputable, but he called for overcoming this era of history and turning the page.

This came during a speech at the University of Ouagadougou during his visit to Burkina Faso.

“There were mistakes, crimes, big things and happy dates, but the crimes of European colonialism are indisputable, and this is a past that must go on”, he said.

This is the second time that Macron made statements about the crimes of colonialism, as he asserted during his election campaign from Algeria that “crimes against humanity” were committed during that period.

The comments which he made in an interview with Echorouk News were welcomed in Algeria and denounced by parties in France, especially from the right, where they described them as insulting France and its history.

It seems that the French President wants, through his statements, to close the file of the crimes of colonialism and stop at the confirmation of their ugliness without responding to the demands of the official apology and compensation for the victims.

These new statements were made by Macron, days before his visit to Algeria on December 6, where the file of history and its outstanding issues will be strongly present.
